You're only as good as the last thing you did...

Something a lecturer of mine told me one day while providing critique on some of my work. I have always remembered it and it has driven me to keep learning, keep growing and keep creating.
Thank you for taking the time to take a look at this portfolio.
My name is Tim Hazzard and I'm a Designer. Give me a moment to tell you about my process and show you some things I've been working on.
I ask a lot of questions.
My process always begins with some form of research because I always want to understand more about the space I'm designing in and the people I'm designing for.
As Erika Hall says in her book 'Just Enough Research' – "Where humans are concerned context is key"
Toolbelt: User Interviews | Stakeholder Interviews | Site Visit | Competitor Analysis | Heuristic Testing
Collaboration to me is key.
I value a process that seeks multidisciplinary collaboration with the knowledge that this will lead to greater insights as we work together to find patterns in the data.
As Eric Meyer and Sara Wachter-Boettcher say in their book 'Design For Real Life' – cross team collaboration "...will help you better understand all the different touchpoint a user might have and prevent any one group from making unrealistic assumptions"
Toolbelt: Affinity Mapping | Empathy Mapping | Persona Building | User Journey Maps | Card Sorting
I seek out feedback.
Moving fast to get ideas out of my head and in front of others. Wether it be through sketches or prototypes I communicate my design decisions, test my solutions and ask for critique.
As noted by Julie Zhou in her industry favourite newsletter The Looking Glass – It's an approach to feedback which focuses on a growth mindset, feedback isn't taken personally as no matter where I am now, I can improve. Hence the words you read at the very top of this page.
Toolbelt: Design Studios | Sketching | Wireframing | Prototyping | User Testing | User Flows | Sitemaps

I measure, reflect, refine.
Metrics and the quantitative data they provide help me advocate the potential of design to company stakeholders and growth teams. As well as measure the success of my design decisions by identifying key metrics to measure throughout my process.
Toolbelt: Metrics | Team Stand Ups | Project Planning | Project Retrospectives
